Contents
Per 5 mL Diphenhydramine HCl 8 mg, bromhexine HCl 4 mg, ammon Cl 100 mg
Indications/Uses
Productive cough & alleviation of nasal stuffiness, sneezing, lachrymation, mucolytic & bronchial congestion.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL (2 tsp) tds. Not to exceed 6 tsp in 24 hr. Childn 6-12 yr 5 mL (1 tsp) tds. Max: 15 mL daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients on MAOI therapy w/in 14 days. Childn <2 yr, premature infants & neonates.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if skin or mucous membrane damage occurs. History of peptic ulceration. Closed-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hyperplasia, pyloroduodenal obstruction. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Childn 2-6 yr. Not to be used in childn <2 yr, premature infants & neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Nervous drowsiness, headache & psychomotor impairment, paradoxical stimulation; urinary retention, dry mouth, blurred vision, GI disturbances, thickened resp tract secretions.
Drug Interactions
Additive CNS depressant effects w/ alcohol, other CNS depressants including barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives, antipsychotics. Additive antimuscarinic effects w/ other similar drugs eg, atropine, some antidepressants. Risk of serotonin syndrome w/ MAOIs. Inhibited oxidative metabolism of some drugs. Enhanced effects of ephedrine. Masked response of allergenic skin tests & ototoxic symptoms associated w/ certain antibiotics.
